Audi Sales: Riding on Audi A4, A5, and SUVs

In the month of May 2017, Audi delivered around 159,600 cars to buyers around the globe, a figure that was 2.8% less than the sales that took place in the same month of 2016. Despite the downturn of the overall U.S. car market, Audi managed to further increase sales in the United States in May 2017, achieving a robust growth of 6.6% in the North American region overall since the start of this year. The company sold 19,197 units in the USA in May 2017, an increase of 2.5% when compared to May 2016.

This rise in sales was driven primarily by the high demand for the A4, the A5 and the company’s SUVs. While sales of the Audi A4 in May 2017 went up by 9% from May 2016, sales of the A5 shot up by a whopping 150% in the same time frame.

Customer demand for SUVs boosted the May sales figures for Audi, with total customer deliveries in this particular segment increasing 6% over May of 2016. The Audi Q7 led the gains with an increase of 14%, and it was also the second best month on record for the Q7 SUV.

The A5 models registered 2,047 unit deliveries in May 2017, which represents a rise of 150% from the same month of last year. On the other hand, the A4 sedan posted sales of 3,011 vehicles in same month, thereby growing by 9% when compared with May 2016. The A4 Allroad performed exceptionally well, as its sales zoomed skywards with an incredible 200% increase between May 2016 and May 2017.

Audi: Company Timeline

Audi was formed in 1969 after the unification of four separate automotive firms, which explains the four rings of the company’s logo. The four original companies were Horch, DKW, Wanderer and Audiwerke, which together formed a firm called Auto Union. This company was owned originally by Daimler-Benz, and it was sold to the Volkswagen Group in the 60’s and eventually renamed to Audi. Since then, Audi has expanded their model fleet to include everything from hatchbacks to sports cars and even electric cars.
