Porsche is a marque known for rolling out sportscars and supercars that are so beautifully engineered that they will drive like a dream regardless of whether they’re used on a racetrack or on public roads. Unlike many sportscars that require delicate handling and hours of preparation before being driven, Porsche vehicles over the years have built a “start it up and off you go” reputation.

The company has a trait of staying with one product line for years and years on end, refining it to such an extent that they approach automotive perfection. The case in point here being the stellar Porsche 911, which has been making waves for well over half a century.

Although Porsche came into existence in 1931, the company did not build any cars under their own name at the outset. Instead, one of the first charges of founder Ferdinand Porsche was to build an affordable “car for the people”, which literally translates to “Volkswagen” in German. The result was the original VW Beetle. The first ever Porsche car was launched 8 years later. The company has always shared a close relationship with Volkswagen and, more recently, it has become a fully owned subsidiary of the VW Group.

Porsche Sportscars

Although all of Porsche’s models are steeped in sporting heritage and can outperform many dedicated sporty cars, there are 3 distinct models that Porsche has built specifically for this purpose. The 718 series vehicles, which comprise of the 718 Cayman and the 718 Boxster, deliver Porsche performance in relatively wallet-friendly packages. Prices range from a little above $55,000 to $57,400 for these vehicles.

The pinnacle of Porsche’s creations is the Porsche 911. Although it was built in an unconventional way with its rear-mounted engine hanging over the rear axle (causing heavy oversteer), the 911 has been around for so long that Porsche’s engineers have been able to tweak every aspect of it to flawlessness. As a result, the Porsche 911 is now considered (and will be, for a long time) the benchmark against which all other sportscars are judged.

Porsche Sedans

Porsche always had a purist’s approach to making their cars and believed that they only need to make true sportscars, a vision shared by many Porsche loyalists as well. The company therefore took a very long time to make its entry into the four seater sedan segment, finally making their foray in 2009 with the Panamera.

While many people didn’t take much of a liking towards the appearance of the car, there was no denying that its driving dynamics were far above any other vehicle in its segment. The car is also very well kitted out and luxuriously appointed. The Panamera range starts from $85,000 and is available as a hybrid as well.

Porsche SUVs

Seen for the first time in 2002, the first ever SUV from the Porsche stable was the Cayenne. This full-sized behemoth could tackle practically any sort of terrain thrown at it, and once it got you through the rough, it could perform like a sportscar on a track. This incredible versatility of the Cayenne made it the darling of everybody who could buy one. Porsche has many variants and trim levels of the Cayenne that extends from just above $60,000 to nearly $120,000, which ensures a wide target audience.

In 2014, in response to rising SUV demands globally, Porsche launched a smaller SUV called the Macan. This vehicle has proved so popular that its sales have surpassed that of its bigger sibling, the Cayenne, on multiple occasions. Prices for the Porsche Macan commence from just under $48,000 onwards.

The Macan registered a particularly strong growth between June 2016 and 2017, having gone up by over 53%.
