The Swatch Group eventually pulled out of the Smart venture with Mercedes-Benz but nevertheless, the radically designed vehicles of Smart are of especially tremendous use if you live in the sort of city that is continually plagued by gridlocks and traffic jams.

The Smart car idea came up because the boss of Swatch realized the need for a small, fuel efficient city car that could be manufactured and personalized using similar techniques that made Swatch watches popular across the world. An agreement was initially struck up with Volkswagen but then later dissolved. After a few more attempts with other car manufacturers, a deal was signed with Mercedes-Benz for the production of Smart cars.

Smart Hatchbacks

As of now, Smart has only one car on sale in the American market, the Smart ForTwo. However, it is available in multiple variants and trim levels. You can buy the ForTwo as either a coupe or as a cabriolet. The coupe version of the Smart ForTwo is further subdivided into two trim levels called Pure and Passion. While the Passion version has an MSRP of $16,140, the Pure version costs $14,650, making it the least expensive Smart car that you can buy in the United States.

The convertible version of the Smart ForTwo also has two trim levels, called Prime and Proxy. The ForTwo Prime will need $17,490 to be made yours, and the Proxy is a tad more expensive at $18,480. Later this year, Smart will be introducing their first electric car for the U.S. market, the ForTwo electric drive.

Smart Sales

Despite its quirky looks and the fact that it can nip in just about anywhere, sales of Smart cars have been on a steady decline. The last time that the company’s sales in the United States market went north of 10,000 units was in 2014, and their total sales in the U.S. last year hovered just above the 5,000 vehicle mark. The company reported a sales figure of 226 units in June this year, which is a significant drop from the 407 units sold in the same month of 2016.

Smart Special Offers

The company has different leasing plans, low APR financing and cash back offers on their cars. Apart from these, Smart will also give you bonus cash of different amounts depending on the vehicle you buy. Also, if you are an existing Smart or Mercedes-Benz client, you also get a loyalty cash bonus.
